What is compost topdressing?

In many of the newer neighborhoods, the soil is not very good - compacted, rocky clay that is devoid of nutrients.  Compost topdressing is the process of spreading a thin layer (1/4-inch thick) of organic material on top of your lawn to amend your soil.  The topdressing is worked into the soil by rainfall or by multiple irrigation cycles. As your grass grows through the layer of topdressing, the organic material is incorporated into the soil beneath it , adding nutrients and improving soil quality.

Compost topdressing is a great way to give your lawn an extra boost of essential nutrients. Not only does it help retain moisture, but it also improves the soil quality and helps promote healthy plant growth. Compost topdressing can also help reduce weeds, aerate the soil, and improve the overall look and feel of your lawn.

Aeration, overseeding and topdressing are usually done together as a TOTAL LAWN RENOVATION.

This process will leave your lawn looking battered, but in about 3-4 weeks, the turn around is amazing.

  • We can kill off any unsightly and unwanted grass and weeds before we start.

  • Aeration loosens the soil for better grass root growth and drainage.

  • Topdressing adds organic matter to the soil for long term soil and plant health and improved seed germination.

  • Overseeding adds Turf Type Tall Fescue to your lawn for superior turfgrass genetics.

LAWN RENOVATIONS ARE BEST DONE IN AUGUST/SEPTEMBER.
